A field (of interconnected realities) or The week of mash-up goodness é o título da nova exposição online da Xerem, da autoria de paula roush e maria lusitano, duas artistas portuguesas sediadas em Londres, que se interessam pelas historiografias de géneros e sexualidades. A field (of interconnected realities) é assim um ensaio visual expandido que integra publicações e projeções, trabalho que já foi apresentado em Londres, em 2012 no BOOKLIVE! E no Kaleid 2012 European Artists’ Book, estando previstas futuras apresentações em diversos países, onde se inclui Alemanha e Portugal.
Segundo as artistas “Este projecto começou em 2010, com a intenção de se fazer um re-enactment dum conhecido livro de artista realizado pelo pintor alemão Max Ernst em 1934, entitulado Une semaine de bonté . O referido livro, que é considerado um exemplo pioneiro na ontologia dos livros de artista, é também conhecido como sendo um dos primeiros livros que procedeu a uma exploração da visualização do inconsciente e do traumático, através dum romance gráfico em forma de colagem, editado numa série de cinco capítulos.”
Esta exposição, marca também o arranque de uma nova Galeria Online da Xerem, um espaço que torna possível a realização de exposições e outras atividades de carácter experimental dentro do contexto digital.
Inserida dentro da rede de parcerias internacionais à qual a Xerem pertence, e desenvolvendo uma estratégia de proximidade com as praticas artísticas emergentes do espaço lusófono e não só, esta galeria pretende assumir-se também como uma plataforma cultural e plural para encontros de carácter artístico e científico, contribuindo criticamente para os desafios que emergem das ações de apresentação de arte contemporânea no amplo e difuso contexto da internet.
No decurso da sua missão de divulgação e de partilha, acreditamos que a Galeria Online da Xerem poderá contribuir para o desenvolvimento de outro tipo de abordagens ao proporcionar o cruzamento entre criativos de diversas geografias e contextos de reflexão artística, funcionando também como um radar de difusão da criação artística desenvolvida pela Xerem e seus parceiros.

The field (of interconnected realities) is an expanded visual essay that integrates projections and publications. The work has been presented in London in 2012 in BOOKLIVE! and in 2012 Kaleid European Artists’ Book, and future presentations are planned in several countries, which includes Germany and Portugal.
According to the artists “The project started in 2010 as the re-enactment of the artist’s book Une Semaine de Bonté (A Week of Goodness, 1934) by Max Ernst. This was the first collage-novel to explore the unconscious as a series of traumatic tableaux in the book format, and a pioneering work in the ontology of the artist’s book. Departing from its materiality as a paper printed and bound western codex, we re-enacted it developing an idiosyncratic form of video, drawing and collage. We relied on webcams to collaborate in double video stream across time and space and develop a virtual space for the book.”
This exhibition is the starting point for the new Online Xerem Gallery, a space that makes it possible to hold exhibitions and other experimental activities within the digital context.
Part of the Xerem network of international partnerships, and developing an outreach strategy with emerging artistic practices of the Portuguese-speaking world and beyond, this gallery also intends to be a cultural and plural platform for artistic and scientific encounters, critically contributing to the challenges that emerge from the presentation of contemporary art in the context of the broad and pervasive internet.
During its disseminating and sharing mission, we believe that the Online Xerem Gallery may contribute to the development of other approaches, providing intersection between creative people from different geographies and contexts of artistic reflection, acting as a radar to broadcast the artistic creation developed by Xerem and its partners.
