Decorreu de 24 de Novembro a 8 de Dezembro o 3º workshop Triangle Network, organizado pela Xerem, representante em Portugal desta rede internacional de artistas e organizações de artistas, cujo principal objectivo é a promoção da troca de ideias e de criação inovadora no âmbito das artes visuais contemporâneas. Intitulado OFFLINE – Entre Trânsito e Viagens, este workshop/residência artística teve como residentes os artistas André Avelãs (PT/NL), André Cepeda (PT), Andrea Brandão (PT), Bianca Baldi (ZA), Cristina Ribas (BR), Eugénia Mussa (PT), João Paulo Serafim (PT), Kimathi Donkor (UK), Krishna Luchoomun (MU), Mauro Pinto (MZ), Monika Fryčová (CZ/IS), Nayari Castillo (DE/VE), Sérgio Afonso (AO), Tânia da Fonte (PT) e Vasco Costa (PT). Fernanda Fragateiro (PT) foi artista convidada. Diogo Allen (PT) foi o realizador convidado. Beatriz Lemos (BR) foi a curadora residente. O OFFLINE levou este grupo de artistas a trabalhar na e sobre a zona do Largo do Intendente e áreas circundantes, em Lisboa. Recorrendo a práticas participativas e colaborativas, os artistas dedicaram-se a investigar o Largo do Intendente, lançando um olhar sobre esta zona da cidade através das comunidades aí residentes, das suas instituições, da sua história e arquitectura. As duas semanas do OFFLINE foram preenchidas por um intenso programa reservado aos artistas, que incluiu visitas a espaços expositivos lisboetas e a ateliers de artistas, e ainda um programa público, composto por apresentações dos artistas participantes e outros convidados. A residência foi concluída com um Open Day público. Abrimos as portas da Carpintaria de São Lázaro, estúdio temporário dos artistas, dando a conhecer ao público em geral o espaço de criação dos artistas e o resultado da sua residência, incluindo também intervenções no Largo Estúdio e no Largo do Intendente. The 3rd workshop from the Triangle Network took place from 24th November to 8th December in Lisbon. It was organized by Xerem. The association represents Portugal in this international network of artists and artists’ organizations, whose main objective is to promote the exchange of ideas and innovative creation within contemporary visual arts . Entitled OFFLINE – Between Transit and Travel , this workshop / residency had as resident artists André Avelãs (PT/NL), André Cepeda (PT), Andrea Brandão (PT), Bianca Baldi (ZA), Cristina Ribas (BR), Eugénia Mussa (PT), João Paulo Serafim (PT), Kimathi Donkor (UK), Krishna Luchoomun (MU), Mauro Pinto (MZ), Monika Fryčová (CZ/IS), Nayari Castillo (DE/VE), Sérgio Afonso (AO), Tânia da Fonte (PT) e Vasco Costa (PT). The workshop OFFLINE led this group of artists to work in and about the area of Largo Intendente and surrounding areas, in Lisbon. Using participatory and collaborative practices, the artists dedicated themselves to investigate the Largo Intendente, glancing over this particular area of Lisbon through the communities living there, its institutions, its history and architecture. The two weeks were filled through an intense program dedicated to the artists, which included visits to Lisbon’s exhibition spaces and artists’ studios, and also a public program consisting of presentations by participants and other invited artists . The residency was completed with a public event – the Open Day. We opened the doors of the Carpintaria São Lazaro, which was the temporary studio of artists, thus presenting to the general public the work developed during the workshop, which also included interventions at Largo Estúdio Café and Largo do Intendente. VIAGENS INVISÍVEIS foi uma residência artística que aconteceu em São tomé de 11 de Outubro a 8 de Novembro integrada na 7ª Bienal Internacional de São Tomé e Príncipe | e contará com uma exposição integrada na 7ª Bienal Internacional de São Tomé que terá Inauguração oficial a 30 de Novembro.

O projecto foi concebida pelas artistas Ana Fonseca, Carla Cabanas, Mónica de Miranda e Susana Anágua. Do programa de actividades constaram um período de criação em residência, um Open Day, workshops para crianças orientados pelas artistas

As artistas nesta residência, exploraram a ideia de viagem como metáfora de entendimento e conhecimento, colocando a experiência do lugar em confronto com a experiência do olhar.

O nome do projecto é tomado de empréstimo à obra de Italo Calvino “As Cidades Invisíveis”, na qual o autor coloca um ficcional Marco Polo a descrever 55 maravilhosas cidades, cujas histórias são mais valiosas do que qualquer riqueza que delas provenha. As VIAGENS INVISÍVEIS destas 4 artistas desenham trajectos que questionam as ideias de viagem, viajante, estrangeiro. A rota que as leva de Lisboa a São Tomé produz deslocamentos dinâmicos, não só físicos, no território, mas também deslocamentos no plano das ideias, capazes de produzir outros olhares e outras narrativas. O projecto pretende assim activar novas direcções dentro do campo dos processos criativos, desde as práticas colaborativas às participativas e de envolvimento através da diversidade de acções criativas e e especificas in situ.

VIAGENS INVISÍVEIS was an artistic residency that took place em São Tomé e Príncipe, from October 11th to November 8th. This residency was organized in the scope of the São Tomé e Príncipe International Bienal, where some of the works produced during the residency will be exhibited. The opening will be on the November 30th.

The project was conceived by the artists Ana Fonseca, Carla Cabanas, Mónica de Miranda e Susana Anágua. Program activities include a period of artisticcreation in residence, an Open Day, children’s workshops guided by the artists and an exhibition integrated in the 7th International Biennale of São Tomé and Principe.

In this artistic residency, the artists explored the idea of travelling as a metaphor of understanding and knowledge, by placing the experience of the site in dialogue with the experience of the gaze.

The project name is borrowed from the work of Italo Calvino “Invisible Cities” in which the author uses a fictional Marco Polo to describe 55 wonderful cities, whose stories are more valuable than any wealth that comes from them. The invisible journeys (VIAGENS INVISÍVEIS) taken by these four artists draw paths that question the ideas of journey, traveler, abroad. The route that leads from Lisbon to São Tomé produces dynamic displacements, not only physical, in the territory, but also shifts in terms of ideas, enabling them to produce other viewpoints and other narratives. The project thus aims to enable new directions within the field of the creative process, from collaborative practices to participatory and involvement through the diversity of creative actions and specific in situ.

Terra de Fogo levou criação artística e arte-educação a Cabo VerdeTerra de Fogo (Land of Fire) took artistic creation and art education to Cape Verde

O projecto Terra de Fogo, uma ação artística promovida pela xerem em parceria com a ZeroPointArt, realizou-se em Cabo Verde/São Vicente entre os dias 8 e 18 do passado mês de Fevereiro.

Com a curadoria de Alex da Silva (curador e artista plástico) e a participação de três artistas portuguesas – Cristina Ataíde, Susana Anágua e Alexandra Sargento, o projecto procurou ao longo do seu programa desenvolver criação artística, destacando-se a exposição “Terra de Fogo” realizada na Galeria da Zeropointart e a residência artística que proporcionou aos artistas um contato direto e aprofundado com a cidade do Mindelo e a sua envolvente natural.

Para além do programa criativo, o projecto contou ainda com uma série de workshops de educação artistica envolvendo três escolas de São Vicente. As crianças das escolas de Escolas de Calhau, Ribeira de Calhau e Madeiral, receberam assim a visita das artistas participantes, todas com experiência no âmbito da educação artística, tendo sido desenvolvidu um conjunto de exercícios com enfoque nas suas áreas de atuação.

Ainda no âmbito do programa, o espaço da Zeropointart organizou um encontro que teve como ponto de partida a apresentação do trabalho das artistas participantes, Alexandra Sargento, Cristina Ataíde e Susana Anágua, e que contou ainda com a participação de Tambla Almeida que moderou a mesa de debate.

Esta mesa redonda realizou-se perante uma plateia bem composta e bastante interventiva, proporcionando a discussão de temas que foram além do trabalho das artistas, tocando questões relevantes aos problemas sentidos no âmbito da criação artística em Cabo Verde. Da necessidade de ter que sair do país para conseguir construir uma carreira à importância de apostar na educação como factor vital de desenvolvimento, muitas foram as questões debatidas.

Terra de Fogo (Land of Fire), an artistic action promoted by Xerem in partnership with Zeropointart took place in Cape Verde/São Vicente in the last february.

Curated by Alex da Silva (curator and artist) and with the participation of three Portuguese artists – Cristina Ataíde, Susana Anágua and Alexandra Sargento, the project sought throughout its program to develop artistic creation, highlighting the exhibition “Land of Fire” held at the gallery Zeropointart and an artist residency that gave the artists a direct and thorough contact with the city of Mindelo and its natural surrounding.

Beyond the creative program, the project also included a series of art education workshops involving three schools of São Vicente. The children from the schools of Calhau, Ribeira de Calhau and Madeiral received the visit of the participant artists, all with experience in the field of art education.

Zeropointart also organized a meeting which had as its starting point the presentation of the participant artists work, Alexandra Sargento, Cristina Ataíde and Susana Anágua, which also included the participation of Tambla Almeida, who moderated the round table.

With a very interventionist audience, this round table was marked by a discussion of issues that were beyond the artists work, touching relevant issues to the problems experienced within the artistic creation in Cape Verde. From the need to leave the country to get a career to the importance of education as a vital factor for development, many issues were discussed.

Oficina de formação em Cabo Verde promoveu reflexão em torno da Cultura DigitalTraining workshop in Cape Verde promoted reflection on Digital Culture

Foi no final do passado mês de Fevereiro que se realizou a “Oficina de Introdução à Cultura Digital: construa o seu site em wordpress.com” em Cabo Verde.

Este laboratório formativo, desenvolvido por Jorge Rocha, foi uma iniciativa promovida pela Xerem e pelo Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua nos Centro Culturais Portugueses do Mindelo e da Praia.

No decorrer de duas sessões intensivas esta iniciativa reuniu diversos agentes culturais deste país, proporcionando aos formandos um contacto mais aprofundado com a plataforma wordpress.com, numa perspectiva de aprendizagem e análise da Cultura Digital no quadro das diversas relações que desenvolvemos.

Na cidade da Praia, a oficina permitiu também contribuir através do seu programa formativo, para um projecto Sinapse da DNARTES – Cinemídea que promove a criação audiovisual usando tecnologias digitais disponíveis e plataformas digitais em rede.
It was at the end of last February that the Workshop “Introduction to Digital Culture: build your site on wordpress.com” was held in Cape Verde.

This training lab, developed by Jorge Rocha, was an initiative promoted by Xerem and Camões – Institute for Cooperation & Language and was held in the portuguese Cultural Center of Mindelo and Praia.

During two intensive sessions this initiative brought together various Cape Verdean cultural agents, giving students a deeper contact with the platform wordpress.com, attempting to learn and analyze the Digital Culture in a social scope.

In Praia, the workshop also contribute through its training program for the Synapse project of DNARTES – Cinemídea that promotes criative work using audiovisual digital technologies and digital platforms available on the network.

Transitante juntou artistas no Intendente em LisboaTransient joined artists at Intendente in Lisbon

Terminou no passado dia 12 de Dezembro o “Transitante: entre álbuns e arquivos”, workshop internacional de artistas Triangle Network, organizado pela Xerem em parceria com o Largo Residências e o Arquivo Municipal de Lisboa – Fotográfico.

O workshop coordenado pelos artistas Jorge Rocha e Mónica de Miranda e com apoio curatorial do curador Carlos Alcobia, ambos membros da XEREM, reuniu no Intendente seis artistas, Anton Theileis (Alemanha), Carla Cabanas (Portugal), Ivan Grilo (Brasil), Jordi Burch (Portugal), René Tavares (São Tomé e Príncipe), e Susana Anágua (Portugal) que durante 10 dias estiveram em residência artística no Largo Residências. Ai desenvolveram as suas pesquisas refletindo sobre os seus processo criativos, num programa que procurou seguir os objetivos comuns às ações organizadas no âmbito da rede Triangle: privilegiar o intercâmbio de experiências, evidenciar e reinterpretar as especificidades de cada local, estabelecer ligações entre artistas e movimentos artísticos e culturais de diferentes países, e dinamizar a presença desses contextos internacionais com os artistas locais.

Como refere Carlos Alcobia no Blog do Workshop “Transitante encerrou as suas atividades com um Dia Aberto que nos proporcionou um encontro final com os diferentes trânsitos que percorreram a Residência Artistica promovida pela Xerem. Foram 10 os dias que partilhámos em torno do Largo Residência (nossa casa) num programa que incluiu visitas, conversas e apresentações, festas, exposições, performances, etc. A criação de um espaço fisico e temporal para experimentar, debater, pesquisar e partilhar. Uma residência artistica de artistas e para artistas.”

O Transitante foi a segunda edição do Workshop Internacional desenvolvido pela XEREM em parceria com a rede internacional Triangle Network (TN), depois de em 2010 ter reunido 20 artistas em Sintra na mesma lógica de partilha, na primeira edição intitulada “Home and Abroad”.

Este workshop é uma actividade se inclui nos objetivos prioritários da XEREM e consolida a nossa missão, contribuindo para a internacionalização da arte e dos artistas portugueses, numa rede que estimula o trabalho criativo, num contexto de colaboração e experimentação com outros artistas, promovendo o diálogo intercultural e o intercâmbio artístico entre criativos nacionais e internacionais.

The “Transient: in between albums and archives”, Triangle Network International artists workshop organized by Xerem in partnership with Largo Residencies and Arquivo Municipal de Lisboa – fotográfico ended on the last December 12.

The workshop, coordinated by the artists Jorge Rocha and Mónica de Miranda with curatorial support by Carlos Alcobia, both Xerem members, have joined six artist, Anton Theileis (Germany), Carla Cabanas (Portugal), Ivan Grilo (Brazil), Jordi Burch (Portugal), René Tavares (São Tomé and Príncipe) and Susana Anágua (Portugal) that were in residence at Largo Residências for 10 days. There, they developed their research reflecting on their creative process, in a program that sought to follow the common goals of actions organized within the Triangle Network and was focused on exchanging experiences, highlighting and reinterpreting the specificities of each site, linking artists and artistic and cultural movements from different countries, and to boost the presence of these international contexts within local artists.

Like Carlos Alcobia says in the workshop Blog “Transient closed its activities with an Open Day which gave us a final meeting with the different transits that wander the artistic residency promoted by Xerem. There were 10 days shared around the Largo Residencias (our house) in a program that included tours, talks and presentations, parties, exhibitions, performances, etc.. A creation of a physical and temporal space to experiment, discuss, share and search. An artistic residency from artists and to artists. ”

Transiente was the second edition of the International Workshop developed by Xerem in partnership with the international Triangle Network (TN), after in 2010 having gathered 20 artists in Sintra with the same sharing logic in the first edition entitled “Home and Abroad”.

This workshop is included on the Xerem major’s goals and consolidates our mission, contributing to the internationalization of Portuguese art and artists, in a network that stimulates creative work in a context of collaboration and experimentation with other artists, promoting intercultural dialogue and artistic exchange between national and international creative people.

Seminário em Faro no passado dia 18Seminar in Faro on the last 18th

O artista e membro da Xerem, Jorge Rocha, esteve no passado dia 18 de Outubro em Faro a participar no Seminário da Pós-graduação em Artes Visuais e Performativas da Universidade do Algarve.

Na iniciativa que tinha como objectivo dar resposta ao plano formativo dos estudantes, aberto também ao público externo, Jorge Rocha falou sobre a sua experiência profissional plurifacetada, abordando o seu processo criativo e reflectindo sobre o seu percurso profissional enquanto artista e produtor, a importância da participação colectiva no seu processo criativo e as diversas ligações que estabelece entre o mundo da produção, da culinária, da performance e da cultura digital.

Parte integrante da sua apresentação, foi também a discussão sobre a importância das residências artísticas como oportunidade para a actualização da carreira artística, abordando o mundo criativo e a produção em rede, tendo dado como exemplo o trabalho desenvolvido pela XEREM.

No âmbito da discussão, foi notório o interesse do público estudantil pela temática das residências, com especial interesse e curiosidade sobre formas de acesso a residências artísticas e quais os modelos a seguir. Por este motivo a este auditório, composto sobretudo por estudantes de arte e artistas em inicio de carreira, foi apresentada a secção oportunidades do site da Xerem que se assume como uma plataforma informativa e de acesso a artistas que pretendam desenvolver as suas candidaturas e integrar programas de residências que se realizam por esse mundo fora.

The artist and member of Xerem, Jorge Rocha, was recently in Faro (October 18th) in order to participate in the Seminar of the Visual and Performing Arts graduate course of the University of Algarve.

In this initiative that was dedicated to the students curricular plan, but also open to the general public, Jorge Rocha had the opportunity to speak about his multifaceted experience, describe his creative process and reflect upon his career as an artist and producer. Also topics of his lecture were the importance of collective participation in its creative process and the several connections that he establishes between the world of production, culinary, performance and digital culture.

Part of the presentation was about the importance of artistic residencies as an opportunity to update of the artistic career, addressing the creative world and the networked production, taking as an example the work of XEREM.

As part of the discussion that followed, it was clear that the students were interested in the residencies subject, mainly showing curiosity about ways of attending the artist residencies and inquiring about role models to follow. For this reason the audience, comprised mainly of art students and artists in early career, was presented to the opportunities section of the Xerem website shown to them as an information platform, providing access to other artists who wish to develop their applications and integrate residency programs that take place throughout the world.
