Costa Vincentina Natural Park – Barranco da Vaca old Primary School (10 km from Aljezur) -will be the meeting point for a one day workshop directed by Susana de Medeiros and organised by Tertulia and Xerem on the 22nd of October (between 10h30 and 17h30 with a break for lunch).
Being an experimental workshop it’s open even to those who don’t fell so ‘confortable’ with drawing. Through drawing exercises it aims to expose participants to the experiences and memories of a place, allowing them to express in visual forms an emotional cartography and/or a personal geography.
Walks will be taken in the morning with occasional breaks to observe and record the impacts of the sensory stimuli in ‘travel notebooks’ and using photography. A picnic will take place in the shade of trees. The studio work will be undertaken at Barranco da Vaca old Primary School. The afternoon’s exercises will encourage a development of a personal mapping of the space based on previous memories that would interlace with the morning’s experiences.

The participants should bring all materials necessary for the workshop, as well as food for the picnic meal.

CALL FOR ARTISTS | POOL ART FAIR MIAMI CALL FOR ARTISTS | POOL ART FAIR MIAMI

Frere Independent is now reviewing artist’s applications for the PooL Art Fair Miami Beach 2011.

Slated for the 2nd, 3rd & 4th of December 2011, the show has been part of the most important art week of the world for years. The week is lead by Art Basel Miami Beach which attracts over 200,000 visitors eager to discover new artists and purchase art.

Located at walking distance from the main show, PooL Art Fair offers the exhibitors a unique opportunity to be part of this important event. Each participating artist, or group of artists, will use the hotel’s guest rooms as an exhibition space, creating an intimate setting. The show will be comprised of artists, artists’ collectives and curators. Hence, the fair will serve as an invaluable resource for the artistic community and the general public.

PooL is the successor to the acclaimed New York Independent Art Fair (November 2000), a groundbreaking exhibition that attracted thousands of visitors from the US and abroad. The simple, modest approach of the PooL Art Fair offers an exciting alternative to the “art fair” experience for dealers and collectors, as well as the general public.

Following the French tradition of independent salons, PooL pioneered the idea in the US; the fair is dedicated to artists that do not have representation in galleries at concurring art fairs.

The Deadline for the application to PooL Art Fair is October 20, 2011.
